English Minor

Note: Transfer students planning to minor in English must take a minimum of 6 semester credits of courses from the Bemidji State University English Minor, including at least one 3000- or 4000-level course. One writing course beyond the College Writing sequence is also strongly recommended. Previous work will be carefully evaluated by the Department of English.

Candidates seeking teacher certification in a minor must take the Education Methods course specific to that minor. See Course Offerings under Professional Education.

I. Required Courses

ENGL 2101 Intermediate Writing (3 credits)
ENGL 2350 American Literature, to 1900 (3 credits)
ENGL 2355 American Literature, 1900 to Present (3 credits)
ENGL 2360 English Literature, to 1800 (3 credits)
ENGL 2365 English Literature, 1800 to Present (3 credits)
ENGL 4420 Shakespeare and His Age (3 credits)

Subtotal 18 Credits

II. Required Electives

Select 6 credits of electives in English numbered at the 2000 level or above.

Subtotal 6 Credits
