Center for Extended Learning

Deputy Hall 333
218-755-2068

Bemidji State University has made it possible for thousands of individuals to pursue continued study through the Center for Extended Learning. Providing access to educational opportunities is a focus of the Center's mission.

The University's central location in northern Minnesota, plus the changing lifestyles of many people within the service region, have underscored the demand for expanded academic options. Looking beyond the confines of the physical campus setting, the Center for Extended Learning is designed to provide learning resources and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all of its constituents.

Offerings range from non-credit courses to courses developed for specific needs to graduate-level courses brought to outlying areas. Students have the option to attend courses, workshops, and institutes; to study individually in their homes; or to enroll in courses offered for credit via interactive television or on-line.

 Extended Learning Courses

Extended Learning courses include BSU curriculum courses and other offerings, such as workshops, conferences, and study abroad, that do not take place on the BSU main campus. For a semester listing of Extended Learning offerings, contact the Center for Extended Learning. Extended Learning credits are semester credits earned at off-campus locations and are considered residence credits.

Guided/Self-Directed Study Courses

Deputy Hall 333
218-755-3924

Guided/Self-Directed Study courses provide an opportunity for individuals to complete courses primarily through self-study. A variety of formats are used. Enrollment in these courses requires self-discipline and places significant responsibility on the learner. Guided/Self-Directed Study courses may be used to supplement other off-campus program offerings and acquire Liberal Education courses. These offerings are considered Bemidji State University residence credits.

Selected majors and minors are available through Guided/Self-Directed Study, and course offerings vary each semester. Please check with the Center for Extended Learning to confirm offerings.
