Dr. Ketel studies factors contributing to pathogenicity of the yeast, Candida albicans. Her main focus is centromere identity, structure and function in Candida albicans and how it contributes to mechanisms of generating anueploidy and drug resistance. Additionally, Dr. Ketel is interested in control of the different morphologies: yeast, pseudohyphae and hyphae. The ability change between the three morphologies has been linked to pathogenicity because mutants which can only form one of the morphologies are avirulent.
