McGraw-Hill Publishing recently announced the team of students from Bemidji State University has ranked Number One WORLDWIDE in overall score for their participation in business simulation, The Business Strategy Game (BSG-Online). This computer based competition is modeled to reflect real-world character of the globally competitive athletic footwear industry. Student teams run simulated companies in competition both with their classmates and with teams of students from other universities. Company operations simulate cause-effect relationships and revenue-cost-profit relationships based on global market and economic principles. All aspects of The Business Strategy Game mirror competitive functioning of the athletic footwear industry. BSU`s student team performance reflects their leadership skills, collaboration & teamwork, financial analysis & management, operations management, marketing management, human resources management, and strategic analysis & planning.
Every year 200 to 300 universities from all over the world participate in the simulation, including teams from other MnSCU universities as well as the University of Minnesota and University of Wisconsin. Each week during the semester, student teams enter their business-based tactical and strategic decisions, representing a simulated year of business operations. The BSG-Online staff calculates five key performance measures (i.e., earnings per share, return on equity, stock price, credit rating, and image rating or customer perception of product quality) which are in turn used to calculate an overall investor confidence score for each student company. This overall score ranges from a minimum of 0 to a maximum score of 120. Company B from Dr. Dean Frost`s section of Strategic Management received a score of 110.0 which tied them for the best worldwide score for the week of April 17, 2011. BSU`s Company B was run by Brian Aaland, Mike Jacobson, and Matt Chruscielski. Very impressive and congratulations!
