Dr. Carol Seibold - Adjunct Professor of Chemistry
Specialization: Inorganic Chemistry

Dr. Seibold is an adjunct instructor teaching a new course for non-science students called Consumer Chemistry. The class stresses the importance of chemical properties and chemical issues to the non-scientist. Each class includes chemistry in the news and product tidbits based on real world chemistry. During the semester, students research and share information on chemical topics.

Dr. Seibold received her Ph.D. and M.S. in inorganic chemistry at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Her Ph.D. thesis was on the chemistry of “Dinitrogen  Complexes of Molybdenum.” Her undergraduate work in chemistry and education was completed at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska

She has 27 years of experience as an industrial chemist, which she enjoys sharing with her classes. She shares a variety of  “war stories” with her classes relating to various chemical topics from her many years of experience. During her 22 years of product development work at 3M and then 5 years at the Imation spin-off, she developed an appreciation for the practical applications of chemistry to the consumer.

She began her industrial career as a bench chemist developing formulations for the Photographic Products Division. She managed product development for many products in the graphic arts industry. One of her many assignments was Technical Services Manager for the Printing Products division where she worked with customers to optimize the use of 3M products. She also managed a technical training center, which provided technical information to sales staff, customers and dealers. She also directed a large joint venture program with two Far East companies to develop next generation laser printers.

She retired from Imation as Technical Director of the Advanced Imaging Lab two years ago and has been pursuing her vision of sharing science with students. She gives presentations to youth groups and schools as a Visiting Scientist.
