Dr. Witt has been teaching at Bemidji State University since 1985. His work experience includes being a correctional counselor at a maximum-security prison, Director of the South Central Michigan Crime Commission, and acting as the administrator of a large Sheriff’s department. His Bachelors degree is from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, and both his Masters and Ph.D. are actually in criminal justice from Michigan State University. He has authored a number of grants and studies, particularly in the area of community based policing. Dr. Witt teaches Criminal Justice and Society, Police Process, System Dynamics and Planning. He is also the department’s POST Coordinator. Among his specific interests were the use of technology and multimedia in teaching both on campus and in distance learning. He is presently working with computer modeling of both macro and micro level criminal justice related phenomenon.
