![]() Mission Statement The Bemidji State University Geography Club is dedicated to the promotion and avocation of the Geography Department. Our goals include increasing awareness of the discipline through social and community networking, and incorporation of new students. We are continually aspiring to define ourselves as global citizens and encourage activities that advocate that ideal.
Geography Awareness · What is geography?· How is it applied on global, local, and personal levels?· There are many different disciplines of Geography (i.e. Human and Cultural Geography, Physical Geography, Economic Geography, Regional Geography, Urban & Regional Planning, Cartography, GIS & Remote Sensing, and Geographic Education)· Job opportunities include, but are not limited to Park Ranger or Park and Recreational Management, Cartographer, Community Developer, Urban or Regional Planner, Environmental Manager, Forestry technician, Teacher/College professor, and many others.
Geography at Bemidji State University · The Geography Department offers a wide variety of opportunities for students pursuing a degree and career in Geography:o B.A. in Geographyo B.S. in Geography with the following emphases§ Traditional§ Regional and Land Use Planning§ Park and Recreation Planning§ GIS and Remote Sensing· Our professors are dedicated to making your experience as an emerging Geographer one to be treasured· Courses include Physical Geography, Human Geography, Economic Geography, Geography of Africa, Regional Planning Methods, Field Geography, History and Development of Geographic Thought, Intro to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Techniques in GIS, Intro to Map Use, Aerial Photography and Remote Sensing, Cartography, and many others.
Social and Community Networking · We are actively building connections among campus communities as well as local and national communities.· We plan an organize events such as Geocaching, which is a glorified treasure hunt using GPS units, while advocating environmental awareness.· We anticipate incorporating the club with volunteer activities such as helping out at the Headwaters Science Center in Bemidji.· Students attend and participate in conferences such as GIS/LIS and the annual American Association of Geographers conference (an esteemed event which has been held in places such as Chicago, Denver, and soon, San Francisco).
