About Our Department

Our Faculty

The Department of Human Performance, Sport, and Health offers you a well prepared and credentialed faculty in a diverse set of fields, who are accomplished both scholarly and professionally, and who are engaged in their fields and in continued learning.  In addition to our regular faculty we also recruit professionals of the highest caliber to serve as adjunct faculty to teach specialty courses such as dance and self-defense.

You'll have a faculty member, who you choose, that will serve as your advisor and will work with you individually to make sure you have the education and exposure to a variety of professional situations you need to be well rounded and as diversified as possible in your field.

Community and Civic Involvement

We are involved with a multitude of community programs and organizations giving our students a  host of opportunities to practice in their field. Our students are involved with planning, hosting and participating in local and regional events, conferences, and workshops for children such as Wellness Adventure Camp for Kids, Adventure Day for middle school students, Bemidji's B-Well program, and ESPN's Play Your Way youth fitness initiative. Through these types of activities you'll be challenged to design and carry out programs that meet the needs of a wide range of ages and ability levels.

Our students are also involved with advocacy of physical education. A group of our students traveled to the state capitol and testified before the Minnesota state legislature in hearings regarding the importance of physical education in the schools in an effort to reinstate a PE requirement for high school graduation.

Educational Strategy

A comprehensive academic foundation, hands-on experiences in your field, a diverse set of credentials and skills, strong and individualized faculty advising . . . it's an educational strategy we believe works, and employers agree. In a recent survey 100% of employers, who have previously hired BSU grads from our department said they would do so again. That may be you!
