Leah Palmer Awarded AAHPERD Ruth Abernathy Scholarship

Leah Palmer, a senior physical education and music education major from Bismarck, ND received one of three AAHPERD Ruth Abernathy scholarships awarded nationally to students in the fields of health, physical education, recreation, and dance. She received her award on March 15th at the AAHPERD National Convention & Expo in Boston, MA. Dr. Brad Strand, President of AAHPERD, presented Leah her scholarship award.

Leah is a mover and a shaker who pursues every opportunity to learn. With a near perfect cumulative grade point average, she is a three-time recipient of departmental scholarship awards and has twice been selected as our outstanding physical education major. Leah takes pride in her accomplishments, contributes her talents, works hard for success and is committed to becoming a teacher who makes a difference in the lives of students.

Her energy is infectious and her teaching engages students in the learning process. In addition, she pursues learning beyond the PETE curriculum. She is proficient in rock climbing and works as a member of the Outdoor Program Center staff. She is an active member of the Ultimate Frisbee club. She walks the talk and is a model of fitness through her involvement in a diversity of physical activities.
