This program when combined with the Physical Education major fulfills the licensure requirements of the State of Minnesota for Developmental Adapted Physical Education. This license may be completed at the undergraduate or graduate level.
As a physical education major we highly encourage you to fulfill the DAPE program in order to increase your employment options. The needs and ability levels of student populations are increasingly diverse and schools need teachers who are qualified and credentialed to meet those needs.
In this program you'll be learning to work with and design activities for students at all developmental levels. You'll have multiple opportunities to work in the field. You may be working with our adapted aquatics program, or through our program's involvement with the area's Special Olympics program. We also have students who have internships with local high schools that offer adapted physical education classes. It's as rewarding as it is challenging, and will serve to make you a better and more qualified teacher.
