Our Program Philosophy

The BSU Theater Program is learning and process oriented program. While our goal is to approach theatre production at the most professional level possible, the program is designed to serve the educational and artistic needs of every BSU student interested in theatre exploration and investigation. Our goal is to foster an imagination that encourages our students to engage in the life-long process of discovering the world and themselves, while fostering the development of the skills they need for this pursuit.

We believe in importance of the relationship between theory and practice, so our learning environment extends beyond the confines of the classroom into the performance spaces through closely mentored production and laboratory experiences, mirroring the university’s philosophy that learning extends beyond the classroom.

These faculty-guided performance and design experiences prepare students to mount and produce shows themselves through the Theatre Unlimited organization. Through this organization, as well as University Theatre productions, we offer our students leadership opportunities that are not common in larger programs.

The theatre program is an inclusive environment welcoming all members of the BSU community. Season selections, course content, and production practices are decided with the BSU signature themes of international/multicultural understanding, civic engagement and environmental stewardship in mind.

See you in the classroom and at the theatre!!!
