About the University Theatre

A group of theatre students posing in front of a theatre archwayWe believe that our stories tell us who we have been, who we are and show us who we might become. Sharing the experience of these stories bridges the divide between individuals, communities and cultures – helping us better understand each other, our society, and our world as we try to imagine the future.

The University Theatre is committed to telling these stories in a way that brings us together as a community. The Theatre Program is dedicated to training artists not only how to interpret and present the stories of others with intelligence and sensitivity, but also to find their voices to tell their own stories.

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with theater at BSU. The University Theatre is open to all members of our community and invites everyone to participate to whatever extent they choose. We produce anywhere from two to four shows a year while collaborating with local amateur, educational and professional organizations on numerous others. We also support the work of our incredibly active student organization, Theatre Unlimited, which also puts together at least two performances a semester. We are also active members of the Kennedy Center/American College Theater Festival, participating on both regional and national levels.

At BSU, we are focused on the journey through the artistic process, the educational experience and life, and we understand that it is a journey that we take together. Our classrooms and performance spaces are linked intimately. Our students meet together to study the intellectual and aesthetic foundations of our art while collaborating to put this knowledge into practice. We are a small and vibrant program that prepares and encourages our students to take leadership roles in our productions and their own education. Students of theatre at BSU learn how to encounter the world with the eyes, mind and soul of an artist so that they are prepared to continue the life-long process of discovering the world and themselves.

A student of theatre at BSU can expect to be involved in all aspects of productions: performance, management, directing and design, and technical productions, which will prepare them for a wide variety of opportunities in the theatre world, entertainment industry or educational institutions.

We look forward to seeing you at the theatre!!!
