Scholarships are available for students demonstrating academic excellence or financial need. An application is not needed to be considered for mathematics and computer science scholarships.

To be eligible for all scholarships at BSU, fill out the Foundation Scholarship Application before Feb 1st.

STEM Scholarship

Award: Up to $15,000 per year for up to 5 years to cover the full cost of attendance (tuition, fees, housing, meals, etc.).

Criteria: Student enrolled at least half-time with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Must be Pell-eligible.

Al Clark Scholarship

Criteria: Up to two “Al Clark Scholarships”, to BSU Junior or Senior students majoring in Business, Education, Engineering, Science or Math with preference to a student in one of the above related majors. Preference to Laporte High School graduates.

Darwin Thorbeck Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Graduate of Bagley High School, declared major of Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years if recipient maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA, continue to declare CS or CIS as their major, take at least one course within the Computer Science program each semester. Entering students are required to take CS 1309 and CS 2321 within the first year of study.

Dr. Elwood Largis Family Scholarship

Criteria: Students majoring in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field. Recipients must indicate a financial need and have a current GPA of 3.0 or better. However, consideration will be given for students who may not necessarily have the requisite GPA, but who show exceptional promise or steady academic improvement and enthusiasm, as determined by the Department Chair.

Gwen (Ranzau) and Madeline Campbell Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Major of Elementary or Secondary Education with a preference to student(s) pursuing the Math Education Endorsement.

Harold T. Peters Scholarship – $500

Criteria: Sophomore, junior or senior with 3.0 GPA and majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Studies, Nursing, Math or Computer Science.

$500 to award to each of the following departments: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, Nursing and Math/Computer Science.

Harvey Westrom Educ Scholarship

Criteria: Two awards (one junior, one senior) for students pursuing either a B.S. in Science or a B.S. in Mathematics, as the case may be, with teacher license. Preference will be given to the same recipient their senior year if criteria are met. A minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher is required. Recipients should also have a demonstrated need for support.

International Student Annual Scholarship

Criteria: Should be an International student (F1-Visaholders only), enrolled (pursuing) 15 academic units or more per semester, working on-campus at least a minimum of 10 hours or more on a weekly basis. Minimum status to apply should be a sophomore, junior and/or senior (not applicable for freshman), minimum grade point average 3.0. Application must include an essay that describes evidence of financial need, contributions/ involvements/achievements at BSU or to the Bemidji community, etc. Preference will be given to those international students majoring in Business and/or computers. Preference will be given to those international students coming from countries where government assistance in terms of financial aid is not available or is minimal.

Ken Masse Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Sophomore or junior Computer Science major with 3.75 GPA in their major.

Knoshaug Mathematics Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to an incoming BSU freshman student(s) who scored 30 or greater in Mathematics on their ACT and is Honors Program eligible. Donors highly recommended that the scholarship recipient(s) be enrolled in math classes during his/her freshman year at the pre-calculus level or higher.

LeRoy Erickson Scholarship

Criteria: Major in science education or math education. Students must have demonstrated financial need, minimum GPA of 2.5.

Marvin Windows and Doors Scholarship

Criteria: One each, for a major in Computer Science and a major in Engineering.

Paul Bunyan Communications Technology Scholarship

Criteria: Junior or senior Technology, Computer Science or Mathematics majors with preference given to students from the Paul Bunyan Communications service area. Awards are divided (2 each) between Technology and Math/Computer Science.

Randy and Marlene Bowen Education Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient of this award must be a student athlete majoring in Professional Education. Preference will be given to Professional Education majors with an emphasis in science or math.

Ray Breen Scholarship – $2,333

Criteria: The Ray Breen Scholarship will be awarded to students majoring in mathematics, one of the physical sciences and music. The scholarship will be split equally between the three departments and may be renewed from year to year. $2,333 per department.

Rosselet-Hickey Scholarship

Criteria: Sophomore or junior Computer Science Major. The student has attained at least sophomore standing in the major with at least half of his/her credits having been earned at BSU. The students has an overall GPA of at least 3.5, Has a GPA in the major of at least 3.75, has completed at least half of the required CS and Math courses in the major at the 200 level and is enrolled in at least 3000 level (or above) CS or Math course each semester the scholarship is awarded. Preference is to be given to students at the sophomore or beginning junior level. No student shall be the recipient of the Rosselet-Hickey Scholarship for more than 2 years.

Stephen and Lauren Vogt Scholarship in Mathematics, Science and Technology

Criteria: Shall be awarded each year to a junior or senior, with preference given to seniors, for double majors with one major in Mathematics and a second major in Computer Science, Economics, Chemistry, Biology or Aquatic Biology. The grade point average of the recipients is to be 3.5 or higher (cum laude or higher). If multiple qualifies candidates exist, the desire to pursue graduate study should be considered, followed by consideration of leadership skills (such activities as leading a club, volunteering, student government, etc.). If no qualified candidates exist, the funds for that year shall be re-invested into the endowment fund.

Tom and Sandy Richard Elementary Math Scholarship

Criteria: Student(s) majoring in elementary education with an emphasis in mathematics.

Wag Collins Scholarship Fund

Criteria: Sophomore, junior or senior Math Education major.
