Deborah Steinbar completed a BA degree in music at Bemidji State University in 1992 where she was listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and was a co-recipient of the Carl O. Thompson BSU graduating senior in instrumental music award. She went on to study with Dr. Jane Solose earning a masters degree in music (UND 1994) with a major in piano and minors in voice and harpsichord. She continues her summer institute harpsichord study with Edward Parmentier at the University of Michigan/Ann Arbor.

She has been an active performer with the Bemidji Headwaters Trio and as a duo-pianist with Ms. Sara Bloom premiering works by women composers. For six years, she performed with the Celtic group Caleigh (on harp, harmonium, tin whistle and voice). The group produced three CDs (the third of which includes two of Ms. Steinbars compositions).

She holds a MN Music Teacher's Association (MMTA) Professional certification in piano and harpsichord and is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM). She has been a piano adjudicator for the MMTA and the Lakes Area Federation of Music Clubs. She has served as adjunct piano faculty at Bemidji State University since 2001.
