SAMUAL R. HAZO will be directing the 2008 MusiCamp Wind Ensemble and conducting a directors workshop.

In 2003, Mr. Hazo became the first composer in history to be awarded the winner of both composition contests sponsored by the National Band Association.  (William D. Revelli in 2003 and Merrill Jones in 2001)  He is a full member of ASCAP and has been honored with the ASCAP-Plus Award.  Mr. Hazo has composed for the professional, university and public school levels in addition to writing original scores for television, radio and the stage.  His original symphonic compositions include performances with actors Brooke Shields, James Earl Jones, David Conrad and Richard Kiley.  He has also written symphonic arrangements for three-time Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams.

Mr. Hazo’s compositions have been performed and recorded world-wide, including performances by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, the Birmingham Symphonic Winds (UK) and the Klavier Wind Project’s recordings with Eugene Migliaro Corporon.  His works have been premiered at the Music Educators’ National Conference (State & National), Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, National Band Association/Texas Bandmaster’s Convention, College Band Directors’ National Association Convention, WASBE and also aired in full-length programs on National Public Radio.  Premiering performance ensembles include a variety of professional, university, all-state and honors ensembles.  His top-selling commissions include pieces ordered by the Wenger Corporation, National Honor Band of America and the Midwest Clinic Board of Directors.

Mr. Hazo’s titles have consistently appeared in the GIA series “Teaching Music Through Performance in Band.”  He is also a contributing author to the 3rd volume of Mark Camphouse’s and GIA’s “Composers on Composing for Band” and Meredith Publications’ “The Music Director’s Cookbook.”  Among his international appearances, Mr. Hazo served as composer-in-residence at Craig Kirchhoff’s University of Minnesota’s 2003 conducting symposium.

Samuel R. Hazo has been a music teacher at every educational grade level from kindergarten through college, including tenure as a high school and university director.  Mr. Hazo was twice named “Teacher of Distinction” by the Teachers’ Excellence Foundation.  He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Duquesne University where he served on the Board of Governors and was awarded as Duquesne’s Outstanding Graduate in Music Education.  Mr. Hazo serves as a guest conductor and is a clinician for Hal Leonard Corporation.  He is also sponsored by Sibelius Music Software.  His original compositions and arrangements are published by Hal Leonard, Boosey & Hawkes, FJH Music and Wingert-Jones Publications.  Recordings of Mr. Hazo’s compositions appear on Klavier Records and Mark Records.
RONALD ROMM will be teaching private trumpet lessons and presenting recitals at the 2008 BSU Instrumental MusiCamp.

Mr. Romm has appeared worldwide on the stages of almost all major concert venues, music festivals, and international music conferences, is widely acknowledged as one of the pre-eminent trumpeters and clinicians of today. Born in New York, but considering himself a native Californian, he was a child prodigy who began his career as a soloist at the age of ten. By age twelve he was a member of his family's band, the Romm-Antics, and at eighteen he was already a veteran freelance trumpeter in Los Angeles. Ronald could be seen and heard performing regularly with the Los Angeles Brass Ensemble and Los Angeles Brass Society, Dr. Lester E. Remsen, Director, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Los Angeles Brass Quintet. After a few years at the University of Southern California, Ron moved to New York. He attended The Juilliard School where he earned Bachelor and Masters Degrees and studied with William Vacchiano, legendary teacher and former Principal Trumpet of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. In New York City, Mr. Romm established himself as a top freelance musician performing with everything from the Radio City Music Hall Symphony Orchestra to the New York Philharmonic to Broadway shows, church concerts, the circus and ice shows.

In 1971, Ronald Romm joined the newly formed Canadian Brass, which later established itself as the premiere brass ensemble in the world. In June of 2000, he retired from the group after participating in well over 4,500 concerts, 60 recordings, numerous television concert specials, videos, and hundreds of master classes. He has performed with major orchestras and with the greatest living conductors in the world. Ron has shared the stage in live performance and recorded CDs with leading artists including Wynton Marsalis, Arturo Sandoval, Jon Faddis, Doc Severinsen, and brass performers from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, and Berlin Philharmonic. As an educator, Ronald Romm has contributed to the growth of brass performance through hundreds of student clinics and master classes worldwide.

n 2001 Ronald Romm was appointed Professor of Trumpet and BA Nugent Professor of Music Performance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Mr. Romm maintains a full teaching schedule at the University of Illinois.

Ron and his wife and long time partner Avis continue an active concert career as a spectacular Trumpet and Piano duo. In 2001-2002 the Romms presented their stage show, A Trumpeter’s Dream, in 35 cities across the United States to rave reviews and standing ovations.
