Matthew Marsolek grew up in the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities.  Matthew attended Bemidji State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in K-12 Instrumental and General Music Education, and is currently working on his Masters in Instrumental Music Education at the University of St. Thomas.  Mr. Marsolek currently directs the bands at Minnehaha Academy Middle School and is also the Camp Director of the Bemidji MusiCamp.  He has spent the past 8 years working with middle and secondary students both in and outside of the classroom inspiring learning, laughter, and leadership.

Dr. Del Lyren is trumpet/horn instructor at camp and serves as Professor of High Brass and Jazz, and Chair of the Department of Music at the BSU. Active in the International Trumpet Guild, he has performed in concerts in Sweden, Germany, England, Scotland, Mexico, Ukraine, Canada, and throughout the United States. He recently published method books on both trumpet and horn. Dr. Lyren is a graduate of South Dakota State University and Arizona State University.

TJ Chapman serves as instructor of Mathematics and Director of Bands at the University of Minnesota Crookston.  He holds undergraduate degrees in mathematics and music from Bemidji State University as well a Master of Science degree in Mathematics and a Master of Music degree in Bass Trombone Performance from the University of North Dakota.  Active as a performer on bass trombone and tuba, Chapman is the principal tubist with the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra and acting principal tubist with the Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra, as well as a founding member of the North Dakota Trombone Choir and the North Dakota Tuba ensemble.

Scott Guidry is Assistant Professor and Director of Bands at Bemidji State University.  He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Loyola University in New Orleans, La., and a Master of Arts degree in Instrumental Conducting from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.  Prior to joining the BSU faculty, he served a 20-year Air Force career, and was most recently the Director of Operations for The United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C.  Additionally, he was the officer in charge of the Ceremonial Brass and Airmen of Note.  Before joining the Air Force, he was Director of Bands at Carencro High School and Lafayette High School in Louisiana.

Katie Hahn is the High School Band director for Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.  Katie is extremely excited to be a part of the Bemidji MusiCamp’s faculty and advisory board, as she is an alumnus of both the camp and the University.  As a trombone player / low brass specialist, Katie maintains an active performance schedule with area community bands and college groups, performing on trombone, euphonium, and the tuba.  In addition to her teaching duties at the high school, Katie teaches lessons on each instrument during the summer months, works with her marching band, and concentrates on developing her abilities on her other interests (parenting, golf, camping, and figure skating).  

Susan Nelson is the instructor of flute at Bemidji State University. She attended Chatham College in Pittsburgh, where she studied flute with David Tessmer and performed with the University of Pittsburgh Chamber Orchestra. Her graduate study continued with Betty and Roger Mather at the University of Iowa, and with Alexander Murray at the University of Illinois.  Since coming to Bemidji in 1987, she has been a teacher, a performer in faculty chamber music recitals and with the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra, and an instructor in programs for the Region 2 Arts Council, the Five Wings Arts Council, and the Bemidji State University MusiCamp.

Originally from Fergus Falls, MN, Ashley Sands is currently the Choir Director at Bemidji Middle School and serves as an Adjunct Professor for Bemidji State University, teaching Clarinet since Fall 2013.  She is a graduate of Bemidji State University and holds Bachelors degrees in Vocal and Instrumental Music Education and Performance.  Mrs. Sands is thrilled to be a member of the Bemidji MusiCamp advisory board and faculty.  She also attended MusiCamp for several years as a student and then served as a counselor for the camp.  Mrs. Sands resides in Bemidji with her husband and enjoys teaching private music lessons to middle and high school students in her spare time.

Originally from Brainerd, MN, Jeffrey Sands is the Pep Band Director at Bemidji State University as well as an elementary music teacher and coach in the Bemidji Public Schools.  In 2011, he graduated with a Master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of North Dakota.  He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Bemidji State University in 2009.  Jeff currently resides in Bemidji with his wife and enjoys serving on the faculty and advisory board for the Bemidji MusiCamp.

Hailing from Northfield, MN, Jini Block is the 5th grade beginning band director for three elementary schools in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.  Prior to her current position, she taught 6th-12th grade music in Bagley, MN, which included all secondary band, choir, and general music.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education from Bemidji State University in 2012. Mrs. Block is also a member of the National Guard where she plays flute, clarinet, and saxophone with the 34th Infantry Division Red Bull Band.  Mrs. Block is on the Advisory Board for the Bemidji MusiCamp.
