The Department of Music offers a variety of truly outstanding scholarship opportunities to both new and returning students. Each year, the music faculty selects individuals with outstanding musical talent to receive scholarship awards of varying amounts, from $500 to Full Tuition Scholarships. Candidates need not be planning a major in music to qualify for scholarship awards. To be considered for a scholarship in music, a student must apply for admission to the University at the earliest opportunity, complete a music scholarship application, submit one letter of recommendation (in support of the candidate) under separate cover, and complete an audition. Auditions may be made in person (by appointment) or by submitting a recording. All scholarship materials must be postmarked by March 2, 2013 to receive consideration.
Our on-campus audition date for incoming freshmen is Saturday, February 23, 2013. Auditions will also be held during the MMEA Midwinter Clinic, and at individually-scheduled times for those who cannot be present on the February date. To schedule an on-campus or an MMEA (Minneapolis) audition, please contact coordinator Susan Nelson at snelson@bemidjistate.edu or218-755-3364.
On-campus scholarship auditions will be held in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.
In addition to the auditions, students will have the opportunity to meet current students and faculty and tour the campus and music facilities. Click here for specific audition requirements for each instrument or voice. For a list of available music scholarships, click here.
