R.N. to Baccalaureate Program Overview

The program is exclusively for ADN and Diploma RNs, is student centered, and focuses on adult learner needs:

Prior experience and knowledge are acknowledged, valued, and expanded upon; thus students learn from each other as well as the professors
Students have a high degree of freedom to make choices and design learning experiences to fit their individual needs and interests:

For instance, students individually plan their 5-credit senior practicum, which involves choosing the setting, the RN, clients, and nursing theory they want to work with, and the focus of the practicum
Practicums have occurred in such places as schools, communities, jails, hospitals, clinics, battered women shelters, diabetes centers, dialysis units, nursing homes, homeless shelters, transplant units, schools of nursing, chemical dependency units, research centers, churches, and hospice units

The BSU Nursing Program is designed in block times (Juniors on Tuesdays & Seniors on Wednesdays) and a blended format (combination of on campus & online) to accommodate busy nurses who have jobs and families and who may commute long distances

Juniors come to campus the first two weeks of class and then every other week with the alternate weeks online
Seniors come to campus the first two weeks of class and then every third week with the alternate weeks online
There are some classes that are totally online except for the first two weeks of class

Class size is small and students receive individual support and attention from their professors

The program serves a vast area of Northern Minnesota

Full-time and part-time options are available

The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)

Clinical experiences are arranged in a variety of sites as close to the student’s home as possible.

Students are eligible for Public Health Nurse Certification upon graduation.

The program has a 90% graduation rate

The program prepares the students for graduate school
