Admission to BSU   

Students must be admitted to Bemidji State University and the Center for Extended Learning prior to applying for admission to the nursing major. Once you have been admitted to BSU, we will review your application to the nursing major and notify you of our decision.  Apply to BSU Online.

Application to Nursing Major

Admission to the nursing major is a separate process from admission to Bemidji State University. We admit students on an on-going basis.Download RN-to-BS Application Form.

Registered nurses may enroll in the initial junior level (3100, 3110, 3120, 3130, 3200) courses prior to being formally admitted to the major if enrollment space is available (preference will be given to admitted students). Enrollment in these courses does not insure admission to the nursing major. Admission to the major is required prior to enrolling in all other courses except 3920 courses and 3457.

Admission Requirements - Applicants Must:

• Be a graduate of a state approved associate degree or diploma nursing program.
• Be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in Minnesota or be a graduate with license pending.
• Be formally admitted to Bemidji State University.
• Submit a completed Department of Nursing Application Form to the Department of Nursing.
• Submit your current Minnesota RN license number to the Department of Nursing.
• Have access to Internet and e-mail.

Transfer Credits

The Admission 's Office will analyze your transcripts once you have been admitted to BSU. Credits previously taken at Bemidji State University will not be included in the transfer evaluation. Only credits transferred to BSU will be included in the transfer evaluation.

Admission Review for the Baccalaureate Nursing Program

• The Department of Nursing determines the admission status of applicants to the baccalaureate degree major.
• Admission applications are accepted on an on-going basis.
• Individuals applying to the nursing major are strongly encouraged to attend an orientation day provided by the Department of Nursing, usually scheduled for early September.

Admission Status

1. Applicants who meet all admission requirements will be admitted with regular status.
2. Applicants who are in the process of completing their final semester in their nursing program, or are awaiting licensure results, may be admitted with provisional status. Should a final transcript or licensure status indicate the applicant has not met the admission requirements, provisional status will be withdrawn. The applicant will not be considered as admitted to the program and will not be permitted to continue with enrollment in nursing courses. Enrollment in courses outside of the nursing major, however, may proceed.

Admissions Notification

1. The Office of Admissions will notify applicants of their admission to BSU.
2. The Department of Nursing will notify applicants of their admission status to the baccalaureate nursing major.
