Coaching Specialist

General Information

This coaching specialist program provides students with skills and the knowledge to coach athletes in many settings, including school, recreation programs, and clubs. It is designed to provide prospective coaches with knowledge of injury prevention, conditioning, psychological preparation, risk management, sport specific coaching skills, and practical experience.

This program exceeds current Minnesota State Board of Teaching requirements and parallels NASPE guidelines.

 
Order of Classes
  • Students should take classes in numerical order when possible.  (see Suggested semester schedules)

General Course Information

  • HLTH 2100 Community First Aid is a requirement of this major.  Students with a Red Cross Community First Aid card or a Red Cross First Aid & CPR card may have the Community First Aid requirement waived.
  • Students in majors/minors outside of Physical Education or Exercise Science who pursue the Coaching Specialist need PHED 3090 Sport Physiology.  Students may substitute PHED 3300 Physiology of Exercise and Nutrition.
  • Physical Education/Exercise Science Majors or Minors are REQUIRED to take PHED 3300 Physiology of Exercise and Nutrition NOT PHED 2600 Sport Physiology.  Physical Education/Exercise Science Majors or Minors pursuing a COACHING SPECIALIST can waive PHED 2600 Sport Physiology.

Graduation Planning Documents

  • PEHS students should submit GRADUATION PLANNING DOCUMENTS when they have completed 80 semester hours of degree coursework.
