The Department of Physical Education, Health and Sport offers four undergraduate
majors: Community Health, Health Education, and Physical Education leading
to the Bachelor of Science, and Sport Management leading to the Bachelor
of Art.
The teacher preparation curricula (Health Education,
Physical Education) are a combination of courses in teaching methodology,
related courses in Health Sciences and Human Movement Sciences, respectively,
and coursework in Education. The curricula are designed to satisfy
the standards of the Minnesota Board of Teaching and of AAHE (American
Association of Health Education) and NASPE (National Association of
Physical Education and Sport).
The community health major prepares students to teach others about healthy
living outside the school setting. The program offers academic foundation,
professional preparation, internship experiences in accordance with AAHE
standards, and a learning environment conducive to personal application of
health goals.
Sport Management offers specialized training and education for individuals
seeking careers in the sport business industry. The Sport Management curriculum
is designed to meet the NASPE/NASSM accreditation requirements: sociocultural
dimensions, management and leadership, ethics, marketing, communications,
budget and finance, legal aspects, economics, and governance.

Graduates of BSU’s Department of Physical Education, Health, and Sport

and advocates for programs in physical education, health, and sport.
