This site is designed for current students in the BSU Pre-Veterinary Medicine program, as well as for students who are contemplating a career in this field. This page is designed to provide general information about our program, as well as information about gaining admission to a Veterinary School. In recent years, typically one or two students from Bemidji State University have gained admission to a veterinary school each year. Almost all of these students go to the University of Minnesota. There are about 20- 30 students at Bemidji State University who are in the Pre-Veterinary Medicine program at any one time.
No specific major is required for admission to the program in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota, although most students major in Biology. In 2006 90 students were accepted of a total of 961 applicants. Fifty-five of the matriculating students were Minnesota (or ND, SD, or Manitoba) residents, out of a total of 204 resident applicants (~27% success rate). In addition, 35 of 712 non-residents were accepted (~5% success rate).
