Bemidji State University welcomes applications for admissions to all undergraduate and graduate programs in Education and Special Education. Detailed procedures and guidelines appear in the undergraduate and graduate catalogs. 

Undergraduate students should contact the Office of Admissions for application assistance, other admission information, or to arrange a visit to campus.  Graduate students should contact the School of Graduate Studies for application information.

Undergraduate Admissions for Professional Education

The following requirements must be met in order to gain admission to all undergraduate programs in the Department of Professional Education:

• Minimum 2.5 GPA
• Minimum of 30 credits
• Proof of having taken the Basic Skills tests
• Confirmation from a school principal that the candidate has been assigned a mentor (PEDL programs only)

Graduate Admissions for Professional Education

Along with the Application for Admission to Graduate Studies, the following requirements must be met in order to gain admission to all graduate programs in the Department of Professional Education:

• Official transcripts from your undergraduate institution(s) - applicants must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher in their undergraduate degree and in additional post-baccalaureate courses (this includes graduate course work as well) (Graduates from any MnSCU 4-year institution-please disregard)
• Letter of intent in response to the following (limit each response to 50 words):
  • Why do you want to be in the graduate program?
  • Explain your background in education or in your current degree field.
  • What do you plan to use this degree for?
• A copy of your current teaching license - Please note: Students seeking a Special Education License, but do NOT have a MN standard teaching license or who may be teaching under a limited license renewed yearly by the Department of Education MUST first take the Standards of Effective Practice (SEP) courses available in the FasTrack Program (online) or at BSU (on-campus). • Two letters of recommendation
