Assessment and evaluation are integral components of the professional education sequence and are used to monitor teacher candidate performance and program effectiveness.

Undergraduate Assessment

Currently, the following data is collected on each undergraduate student:

Entrance Requirements

  • GPA of 2.5
  • 30 credits in Liberal Arts
  • Evidence of having taken the Basic Skills Test (MTLE or Praxis as appropriate)
  • PEDL programs only - Confirmation from a school principal that the candidate has been assigned a mentor

Mid-Point Assessment Requirements

  • GPA of 2.5
  • Dispositions Assessment
  • Delivery of a Mid-Point Content Lesson Plan 
  • Standards attainment specific to courses

Exit Criteria*

  • Completion of degree requirements  (Consult the BSU Catalog for details)
  • Completion of the Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) - The Teacher Performance Assessment is an opportunity for candidates to demonstrate their ability to integrate lesson planning, lesson delivery, student assessment, and critical thinking.
  • Summative Evaluation of Student Teachers (.docx download)

* Passing scores on the MTLE Pedagogy and Content(s) examinations are required to obtain a Minnesota Teaching license.

Graduate Assessment

Taskstream is used to track data on Non-Licensure seeking Graduate Students. These students will need to purchase their own subscription to Taskstream. Subscriptions are available at the BSU Bookstore or online at For questions or concerns please contact us at

  • GPA of 3.0
  • Bachelor's degree in Education
