Bemidji State University's Department of Professional Education offers a 35-credit Master of Science, Education (M.S. Education) research degree for practicing pre-K through post-secondary teachers and for others interested in education. The M.S. Education degree core courses are designed to meet six program standards adapted from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Additional coursework for the M.S. Education degree includes ED6980 Research Paper OR ED6990 Thesis and advanced elective coursework.
*ED6920 DGS: Written Exam meets the comprehensive exam requirement of the School of Graduate Studies. It is to be taken after all other core course requirements have been met.
Electives are selected with the guidance of a BSU advisor, and then submitted to the department chair and graduate dean for their approval. Courses taken for elective credit must be at the graduate level (5000 or 6000 level) and relevant to a student's academic goals and needs. Up to ten credits of graduate-level elective courses may be transferred into a student's program if the courses are taken at an accredited university. Up to five credits of graduate-level workshop courses may be used as electives for a student's degree program if the workshop courses are taken at BSU or another accredited university.
Specific licensure and certification programs are listed here; however, students may select other areas of study, with the approval of their advisor, the department chair, and the graduate dean.
