The content area tests measure general and subject-specific pedagological skills and knowledge. The tests cover what you have learned while at the university, so it is best taken just before you student teach, during student teaching, or immediately following your student teaching. You must pass the content test to apply for licensure.

The pedagogy test measures general pedagological knowledge. The test covers what you have learned while at the university, so it is best taken just before you student teach, during student teaching, or immediately following your student teaching. Take into consideration whether you have taken the classes that present the information on which you will be tested.
The test results do not affect graduation; however, candidates cannot apply for their teaching license until the tests are passed. All students seeking teacher certification in the State of Minnesota must pass the MTLE Pedagogy exams. The pedagogy exam consists of three levels of assessment.
