PPST/PRAXIS

Legislation enacted in 1985 required the Minnesota Board of Teaching to adopt examinations for assessing skills in reading, writing, and mathematics for teachers licensed under Board authority and to adopt rules for implementation and ongoing administration of the tests. The Board was also required to adopt general pedagogy and content tests for teacher licensure.

Effective Spring semester 2010, students entering the Professional Education program will be required to take all parts of the PPST basic skills test (Pre-Professional Skills Test or Praxis I) by December 1, 2009 in order to register for any Education course.

Beginning Fall semester 2010, students entering the Professional Education program will be required to successfully complete all parts of the PPST basic skills test (Pre-Professional Skills Test or Praxis I) in order to register for any Education course.

The Praxis scores are maintained by ETS for ten years and are portable to other states using the Praxis Series. Test takers will not receive a paper score report in the mail.  Test takers can access their scores online for 45 calendar days from the score reporting date.  We recommend that test takers save or print a copy of their scores for future reference.

NOTE: Minnesota is changing to the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examination (MTLE) in 2010.  ETS Praxis I and Praxis II tests will be available only until August 31, 2010.

Beginning September 1, 2010, only Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examination (MTLE) tests will be available.
