Praxis II

All students seeking teacher certification in the State of Minnesota must pass the Praxis I (PPST) and Praxis II exams. The PRAXIS II exam tests professional knowledge and content/subject matter. Praxis tests are recommended to be taken during the first semester of the senior year. Allow six weeks to receive your scores and time for processing the results before you need to apply for your teaching license. Take into consideration whether you have taken the classes that present the information on which you will be tested. The test results do not affect graduation; however, candidates cannot apply for their teaching license until the tests are passed. All Praxis II tests are paper and pencil tests. Minnesota teacher testing requirements for specific licensures and adopted passing scores can be found on the Minnesota Board of Teaching website at Praxis II - Principles of Learning and Teaching and Subject Assessments and Specialty Fields.

The Test of Professional Knowledge: Principles of Learning and Teaching (Pedagogy Test)

Candidates may select any one of the four tests from the Praxis II Series: Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT Early Childhood; or PLT K-6; or PLT 5-9; or PLT 7-12) as long as the test falls within the grade range of their scope of practice. Candidates will not be required to take more than one test of professional knowledge.

Subject/Content Knowledge in their Field

Subject/content knowledge tests must be taken for each license field for which you apply as well as most middle school specialties. Since passing scores may change from time to time, you must meet the passing score required at the time of licensure, not when you take the test. If you have a double major, you must take a content test in each major (e.g. elementary education and special education or English and art education).
