Lewis is now semi-retired, having moved back to South Minneapolis after 30+ years of corporate Human Resource work around the country and around the world.  He was Vice President of Human Resources for National Car Rental in Minneapolis, VP HR for Americold Logistics, Atlanta, and, in the 90's, VP of International HR for Sonoco Products Company as an expatriate Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.   When he returned from Europe, he went back to school and earned his Masters in Human Resource Management.  In 2001, along with partners, he started an e-learning company, Adayana, which is still going strong.    He teaches a couple of courses, Leadership and Compensation, at Saint Mary's University's Minneapolis campus and, “to keep myself busy,” sits on a couple of Boards and does a little consulting to emerging growth companies.  Lewis says, “Thanks BSU and Jack Downing (former professor) for making it all possible” and that he would “be happy to mentor individuals considering a corporate career.

1968

David Bergsven

After receiving his masters degree, Dave worked for the Minnesota State Department of Education as Director of Human Resources. He then served as Assistant Director of Labor Relations for Hennepin County and later as Vice President of Human Resources for Deaconess Hospital in Montana. Dave returned to Minnesota and became a labor and commercial arbitrator, finishing his career as Deputy Executive Director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission. Dave is now retired and enjoys traveling around the world with his wife. Dave says, "We are both active Rotarians and have been involved in numerous local, community, and international projects, providing various forms of assistance to the young people of the world."

Jim Bergum

After graduating from BSC, Jim taught high school math in North Dakota and then decided to go back to graduate school. Since receiving his doctorate, Jim has worked for two pharmaceutical companies, Wyeth and currently Bristol Myers Squibb.

Dave Baker

Dave is an attorney and currently the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Red Wing Shoe Company in Red Wing, Minnesota. Prior to that, he was briefly in private practice with the now defunct St. Paul law firm of Doherty Rumble & Butler. After finishing law school, Dave was with Cenex, Inc. (now known as CHS Cooperatives) a multi-billion dollar St. Paul based agricultural cooperative where he became Vice President, General Counsel and Assistant Secretary. Dave says, "Although I don't work in the psychology field, it still captures my interest, and I do believe my psych background has been valuable during my career."

Mark Hanlon

Mark has worked in Mental Health/Human Service Centers in both North and South Dakota. He was the Clinical Director for Heartview, a chemical dependency treatment center. He has also worked independently and in a hospital setting. He is currently working within the State Prison system as a clinical psychologist. He has published a number of articles, including publishing in the International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology.

Greg Ryan

Greg is a practicing attorney in California, providing legal advice and representation to individuals, businesses, and insurers in virtually every area of civil litigation. He has substantial trial experience and is admitted to practice before many courts, including the U. S. Supreme Court. Greg has earned Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating, bestowed on attorneys for their professional knowledge and ability as well as ethical standards in the practice of law. He is also listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.

David Anderson

David is Vice President of Programs & Technology at StayWell Health Management. He is the architect of StayWell’s health risk assessment models and the first widely used system for managing targeted health behavior-change interventions. David shares senior management responsibility for strategic planning and has consulted on customer programs honored with more than 30 WELCOA Gold and C. Everett Koop National Health Awards. Prior to StayWell, David held management and consulting positions with Control Data Corporation, helping to create one of the first successful corporate health management programs. David began his career as Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. He is a charter member of the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO) Board of Directors, as well as the Chair of its Research Committee. David has published many professional papers and speaks regularly on a wide range of health management issues. He says, "The psychology faculty at BSU at that time, particularly my advisor Katie Bradfield, was tremendously helpful in reinforcing my interest in human behavior, which continues to be the focus of my career."


1975

Sherre (Hotchkiss) Collins

M.B.A. (Information Systems) University of St Thomas

Sherre started her business career in Customer Service, leveraging her people and communications skills. Her MBA helped her to jump career tracks into technology. She is Executive Vice President of an IT firm with 25 years of technology experience, emphasizing project management, strategic business and IT planning, process improvement, applications development, and IT management within multiple organizations. Sherre has been responsible for managing cross-organizational multi-national projects up to $75 million in size and has managed operating budgets of up to $80 million. Her experience encompasses a wide range of environments, including client/server, internet, and traditional architectures. Team building and team motivation are areas of particular aptitude. Sherre enjoys mentoring management candidates and has been rewarded to see some of them succeed in executive positions.

Steve DeKrey

Steve has been working in Business Schools in university settings since 1983. Currently, he has a position in Hong Kong which is primarily administrative, building reputation for a new university founded in 2001. The school is considered to be the top business school in Australia/Asia since 2000. Steve has also been getting back to teaching and has rejoined the APA. He is involved with the Organizational Psychology division. He is considering writing a book on leadership in Asia. Steve says that China " will soon become the largest market for business education in the world! No small feat for a communist country!"

Nancy Steblay

Nancy is a Professor of Psychology at Augsburg College. Her interests are in psychology and law, specifically eyewitness accuracy, pretrial publicity, and inadmissible evidence and judicial instructions to disregard, as well as research methods and meta-analysis. Nancy has many publications and presentations.  Most recently, she worked with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office in their implementation of new procedures for police lineups.   Her articles are available at her webpage.

June Bender

June worked in the BSU Placement Office (now Career Services), serving as both Assistant Director and Director. June is now retired from BSU. She continues to work, though, serving as President of the corporation that operates Culligan Soft Water in the Bemidji area. At 70, June says, "I feel great, but I am still working on becoming fully retired. Therefore, I think I should be 'no one's envy'." June provided the initial endowment for the Bender Scholarship awarded each year by the BSU Psychology Department.

Mark Haugen

During his time in graduate school, Mark served as a Psychometrist at the Austin Neurological Clinic in Texas. After completing his doctoral degree, Mark was a Staff Psychologist and Co-Clinical Director at the Upper Mississippi Mental Health Center in Bemidji. Mark is currently a Licensed Psychologist in private practice in Bemidji where his responsibilities include individual, marital, and family psychotherapy and psychological testing, including neuropsychological screening exams.

Mark Kleven

Mark is Vice-President Preclinical Development for a small pharmaceutical company near Philadelphia, PA.  He is also enrolled at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in the Business Essentials for Working Professionals Certificate program.  Mark says, “I'm learning life-changing material, skills needed to understand the business side of my own company and meeting a lot of very bright and successful people.”  Mark also has a Visiting Scholar appointment in the Dept. of Psychology, giving him the opportunity to interact with the neuroscience community at the University of Pennsylvania.  Previously, Mark lived in France where he was Head of Behavioral Pharmacology, Neurobiology II at the Centre de Recherche Pierre Fabre, a pharmaceutical company, doing cutting edge science at the interface between molecular biology (e.g., siRNA gene silencing in vivo) and behavior. He was also involved in putting drugs into development. Mark also served on the Executive Committee of the European Behavioural Pharmacology Society. Mark completed a post-doc in Psychiatry at the University of Chicago where he later was a Research Associate and Assistant Professor.

Carol (Romberg) Kramer

M.A. (School Psychology) University of Wisconsin - Stout

After completing her masters degree, Carol worked as a School Psychologist in Wisconsin before moving to Wyoming to pursue a similar career. She took a job with the Department of Defense, working in Germany. Carol returned to Wyoming and is again working as a School Psychologist.  Carol has begun a neuropsychology program taught by Dr. Phil DeFina who is associated with the Brain Research Lab at New York University.  Dr. DeFina believes that school psychologists would make good school
neuropsychologists and has developed such a program. Carol will earn a certificate from Texas Woman's University and hopes to work in the schools as a school neuropsychologist doing evaluations and making instructional recommendations.

Mark S. Latz

Mark was an Assistant Professor of Education at the University of North Carolina, Asheville.


1979

Sally (Albright) Fitzer
BSU Community Service & Psychology majors
M.S. (Research and Evaluation) University of Northern Colorado

Sally did a little teaching and then managed a book store for about 13 years in Salt Lake City. She made a career change and was a Disability Claims Adjudicator for the state of Utah, making disability decisions for the Social Security Administration. She is currently living in Wisconsin and supervising a unit of adjudicators for the Disability Determination Bureau.

Laurie Scheuble

Ph.D. (Sociology)

Laurie is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Crime/Law/Justice at The Pennsylvania State University. Before that, she was a Full Professor at Doane College in Crete Nebraska. Her research interests are survey research, marital naming, wedding and engagement and infertility.

Jim Tuorila

Ph.D. (Counseling Psych) Texas Tech (1986)

After receiving his doctorate, Jim went to work at the St Cloud, MN VAMC as a staff psychologist where he has remained, specializing in PTSD. His doctoral dissertation was on ex-POW's from WWII. Jim also has a private practice and has been on the adjunct faculty at St. Cloud State University. In 1997, Jim was named one of the Outstanding Alumni from BSU. He also received a similar National award from the VA for his innovative work with veterans at the VA in St Cloud. Jim is a hot air balloon pilot, having flown all over the USA, France, Belgium and Germany with three POW-MIA balloons. He has served as the 6th District MN VFW Commander and been on the National VFW POW-MIA committee.
