Volunteer Opportunities

A commitment to the community is at the core of the social work profession. In fact, volunteers founded relief societies, children’s homes, day care programs, recreation services, family and child welfare associations, and mental health associations. In other words, volunteers preceded social work in almost every field of practice (Anderson
& Ambrosino, 1992).

A number of social work courses require students to volunteer, be it with individuals, groups, or the community as a whole. We also encourage social work students to continue this strong tradition and find time, even a few hours each month, to volunteer for worthy programs in your community.
