Internship Guidelines
Course Title
IT 08-25-4970 CTE Internship: (4-12 credits, depending on individual needs. Consult with Dr. James McCracken (218-755-2998 or jmccracken@bemidjistate.edu) to determine the number of credits you will need.
Pre-requisites
The Internship can be completed at any time. Licensure requirements set forth by the Minnesota Department of Education and Learning Personnel Licensing Department, or the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.

Description
Education Internship program will fulfill the requirement of a supervised teaching experience in a specific Career and Technical Education licensure area set forth by Minnesota Department of Education, or an internship for licensure in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System.
The Internship will:
- provide an opportunity to enhance skills through consultation with an educator or a professional business partner
- provide a base for positive professional development
- provide for the development of related techniques for utilizing methods, materials and management skills
- establish a foundation of communication between the intern, supervisor and the university which is supportive and positive
- After completion of the internship, the intern will demonstrate and/or certify strategies:
- of the subject matter
- of student differences and how these differences relate to teaching/training strategies
- of the basic procedures by using a course outline and daily lesson plans
- of administrative tasks, i.e. management, maintenance, grading, room organization, safety, student organizations
- of teaching aids
- of oral and written expression
Requirements
Strategies will be certified by submitting:
- sample lesson plans
- copy of course syllabus taught, or similar material
- The Career & Technical Education Daily reflective journal
- handout sheets pertinent to activities used in class or similar situation
- letter from the mentor/supervisor regarding the performance of the intern during the experience
- on site observation / visit by BSU internship supervisor
NOTE: These items may be substituted with prior approval of BSU Internship Supervisor
Mentor/Supervisor
- The Intern will also be expected to identify an on-site mentor/supervisor at their internship site that would be willing to meet periodically with the intern to discuss the Intern’s progress and areas of need or concerns. They will also be expected to work cooperatively with the BSU supervisor, and submit an evaluation letter concerning the performance of the Intern during the internship experience. When possible, a BSU faculty member will complete an on-site visit and performance assessment of the intern. See Internship Evaluation Form below for a list of items the intern will be assess with.
Registration
Prior to registration students will submit a written proposal to fulfill theses guidelines to Dr. James McCracken (Bemidji State University, 1500 Birchmont Dr, Box 34, Bemidji, MN 56601 or jmccracken@bemidjistate.edu ).
- Students should contact the Center for Career & Technical Education prior to the beginning of the semester of the Internship to obtain internship registration information. Students may register for a minimum of 4 credits, and a maximum of 12 credits, depending upon their individual needs.
