Competency requirements for MnSCU Community/Technical College Faculty
New MnSCU Community and Technical College faculty may be required to complete 3 courses for credit to meet the Teaching and Learning Competency requirements of the College Faculty Credentialing Policy. The three courses are:

IT 4930/5930 Curriculum Planning and Design for Community & Technical Colleges, 2 cr.
IT 4930/5930 Assessment and Evaluation of Student Learning for Community & Technical Colleges, 2 cr.
These courses are offered in a variety of delivery formats, including web, interactive television, face-to-face and a blend of these formats to offer the maximum flexibility and access for faculty. These courses can also be used to earn credits toward a BS and MS in Career & Technical Education at Bemidji State University. Individuals who desire to earn a degree should check out the degree options with the Center for Career & Technical Education at the Center for CTE web page (CTE Home Page web link here). For certain individuals who have an AS, AAS, or Diploma, and also have related work experience in the field in which they are teaching, may be eligible for up to 64 credits between work experience and previous degree work to count towards a BS degree.
This course presents instructional methods employed in teaching for community and technical college faculty. This includes the theory of learning, learner outcomes, instructional strategies, learner assessments, and instructional organization and management relating to adult learners.
This course addresses the philosophy and application of curriculum planning and design for community and technical college faculty. It focuses on the formulation of purposes, identification of content, selection and sequence of activities and learner outcomes and assessment.
This is a course which investigates the theory and application of assessment and evaluation of adult learners by community and technical college faculty. It includes the development, selection and use of a wide range of assessment and evaluation tools and their respective advantages and disadvantages in measuring student performance.
