Work-Based Learning

Endorsement

This is a grade 9 - 12 Minnesota licensure endorsement that can be used in conjunction with a regular teaching license for individuals who are interested in coordinating a variety of work-based education and career exploration opportunities for students.

Required Courses

  • IT 4839 / 5839 Student Organizations in Industrial/ Career and Technical Education (2 cr.)
  • IT 4850 / 5850 Foundations/ Philosophy of Career and Technical Education (2 cr.)
  • IT 4887 / 5930 Career Development Theory and Practice (2 cr.)
  • IT 4888 / 5888 Work/ Occupational Assessment of Learning (2 cr.)
  • IT 4889 / 5889 Coordination Techniques of Occupational Education (2 cr.)

Course Delivery

To accommodate students regardless of their locale or work schedule, all of the required courses are available on the web. However, it is important to understand that web-based courses will be scheduled with start and stop dates within the semesters, and will require students to participate in scheduled chat rooms for some courses. Courses are scheduled on a rotating basis, with two to three courses typically offered each semester, including summers. For some students, classes may also be available on ITV, and in limited cases, on-site at Bemidji State University.

Application Process for Work-Based Learning Endorsement

Once all five courses have been completed, go to the Minnesota Department of Educations Licensure Forms and pull the form "Application for and Addition to a MN Education License. Complete the form as an Addition of a new field to a valid Professional License.

Complete pages 1,2,4, & 5. Send the completed form and a $64.40 check made out to Minnesota Commissioner of Education to: Dr. James McCracken, Bemidji State University, 1500 Birchmont Dr., Box 34, Bemidji, MN 56601. BSU will complete part 5 of the application and forward the complete application to the Minnesota Department of Education.
