Scholarships & Awards

Applications for scholarships will be available in the mid-February in the Technology, Art & Design Department main office in Bridgeman Hall.  Deadline for submission of scholarship applications will be in mid-March.

JOHN WARFORD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP               annually available

CRITERIA: Students currently enrolled in a major within the Technology, Art & Design Department.

LESTER OLSON VETS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP                availability based on funding

CRITERIA: Veteran who is enrolled in a major in the Technology, Art & Design Department, has substantiated financial need and in good academic standing at BSU with a minimal 2.00 GPA.

MARVIN ANDERSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP               annually available

CRITERIA: Major in the Technology, Art & Design Department with substantiated financial need and preference given to Minnesota residents.

OTTERTAIL POWER SCHOLARSHIP                               availability based on funding

CRITERIA: One or more scholarships to Junior or Senior in the Technology, Art & Design Department with 3.25 GPA.

WILLIAM SELLON SCHOLARSHIP                                   annually available

CRITERIA: One or more scholarships to Junior or Senior in the Technology, Art & Design Department with 3.25 GPA.

For only Technology related majors (TADT) in the
Technology, Art & Design Department

BIG OAKS SCHOLARSHIP                                                 annually available

CRITERIA:  Students must be currently enrolled in an Industrial Technology major within the Department of Technology, Art & Design.  Must have completed 75% of coursework in targeted degree with minimum cumulative GPA at time of application of 3.25. The recipient must demonstrate a financial need for assistance of their education. Financial needs shall be determined by the recipients providing evidence they have participated in funding part of their education to date. This can be accomplished by providing one or more W-2s in the recipient's name for the previous year. The total of all w-2s must equal or exceed 50% of the scholarship total.

DR. ELWOOD LARGIS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP             annually available

CRITERIA: Students majoring in a Science, Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field. Recipients must indicate a financial need and have a current GPA of 3.0 or better. However, consideration will be given for students who may not necessarily have the requisite GPA, but who show exceptional promise or steady academic improvement and enthusiasm, as determined by the Department Chair.

KRAUS ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP                               annually available

CRITERIA: 1 or more scholarships to a Junior or Senior presently enrolled in a major within in the Engineering Technology related major and originally from the Northern Minnesota area.

MARVIN WINDOWS AND DOORS SCHOLARSHIP        annually available

CRITERIA:  Major in Engineering related degree in the
Technology, Art & Design Department

MDU RESOURCES SCHOLARSHIP                                  available every other year

CRITERIA: Student will be a Junior or Senior with a minimum 3.50 GPA majoring in a discipline that aligns with Great Plains Natural Gas Company's core business focuses-not based on financial need.

PAUL BUNYAN COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP              annually available

CRITERIA: Annual award shall be $2500 per student. Annual scholarships will be awarded to 2 Juniors or Seniors in Technology with preference given to students from the Paul Bunyan Communications service area.

BARBARA R. HANUS LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP    annually available

CRITERIA: Junior or Senior in the Art and Design Program with a 3.00 cumulative GPA and is working toward completing the Digital and Exhibit Design emphasis area.

JOHNSON CONTROLS SCHOLARSHIP                          annually available

CRITERIA: Junior or Senior in the Technology, Art & Design Department majoring in Design Technology/Art & Design or model building.

LEONARD D. MELVILLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP   availability based on funding

CRITERIA: Declared major in Art & Design major/Studio Arts emphasis whose primary medium is in two-dimensional art.

LILLIE M. KLEVEN SCHOLARSHIP (PRINT)                           annually available

CRITERIA: Junior or Senior majoring in Art & Design major/Studio Arts emphasis with minimum two courses in print medium.

M. FERN BIRNSTIHL ENDOWMENT FUND SCHOLARSHIP annually available

CRITERIA: Preference given to incoming freshman majoring in the Art & Design major/Studio Arts or Music.  If an incoming student is not identified who meets the minimum requirement, the award may be presented to a returning student who is majoring in Art & Design major/Studio Arts or Music.  The scholarships shall be divided between Technology, Art & Design and Music Departments.

MARGARET H. HARLOW SCHOLARSHIP (CERAMICS)      annually available

CRITERIA: Junior or Senior, Art & Design major/Studio Arts emphasis with min. two courses in ceramics.

PATTY WILSON PERSELL SCHOLARSHIP                            annually available

CRITERIA: Art & Design major/Studio Arts emphasis or Early Childhood Education.  This award will alternate between the two majors annually.  The student must qualify for financial aid, be a junior entering their senior year, and must have maintained a 3.00 cumulative grade point average.  As part of the application process the student must answer the essay questions specified in the scholarship agreement document which will be scored by the committee based on the student's clear expression of his/her desire to learn and grow, his/her realistic but creative vision for impacting or changing his/her community/society, and his/her plan to implement such a vision.

ROY AND EVA LIND SCHOLARSHIP                                       annually available

CRITERIA: Art & Design major/Studio Arts emphasis, Elem Ed & Mass Comm majors.

RICK AND MARCELLA SHERMAN SCHOLARSHIP              annually available

CRITERIA: Art & Design major/Studio Arts emphasis who is an outstanding visual artist.

STEPHEN/LOIS SORENSON ENDOW FOR STUDIO ARTS  annually available

CRITERIA: Art & Design major/Studio Arts emphasis.

SKYLINE EXHIBITS SCHOLARSHIPS                              annually available

CRITERIA: Student must be any Design Technology/Art & Design Major with a Digital and Exhibit Design emphasis who has successfully completed TADD 3568 and TADD 3569.

WESTY JAMES SCHOLARSHIP                                                annually available

CRITERIA: Art & Design major/Studio Arts emphasis.  Has taken one course in ceramics.
