Online / Off-Campus Delivery

This program has been designed primarily to be offered via the web to individuals who are not able to take classes on campus. If an individual has already completed a 2-year diploma, A.S., or A.A.S. degree, it is possible to complete all degree requirements from BSU with web-based courses as long as students have access to the internet.

Off-campus courses are scheduled to be taken on a part-time basis to accommodate individuals who are employed. Typically, 2-3 courses will be offered each Fall and Spring Semester, and 1-2 courses during Summer Session. Students may take more credits each semester if they wish, but should be careful to balance their work, family and student life. Classes are scheduled on a regularly rotating schedule, and if followed will permit the student to complete degree major requirements in approximately 3 years. Completing Liberal Education requirements may take additional time. Students who complete fewer classes per semester will take longer to graduate. There is no time limit on completing degree requirements. Current and upcoming semester class schedules can be viewed under the Off-Campus Class Master Course Schedule page of this section of the program web site.

Web courses are offered through a software platform called Desire to Learn (D2L). D2L is capable of running successfully on either dial-up or high speed internet. This software provides a course template that may include such features as chat room, discussion boards, course syllabi, course content, assignments and grading, depending on individual instructors. Once admitted to the university and registered for classes, students will receive information and a password to access the D2L course home page. There is also a D2L Orientation mini-course available, and new students are encouraged to complete this orientation before starting a class to become familiar with D2L features and operation. Students have access to a D2L helpline listed on the D2L site if they need technical assistance with the software. Web delivery permits students to complete the majority of their coursework at a time that it most convenient to them. Depending on specific classes or instructors, there may be limited chat or help sessions that students may be required to participate in. These sessions are generally scheduled in the evenings.

On-Campus Delivery

On-campus courses are scheduled to be taken on both a part-time or full-time basis to accommodate individuals who are employed. Students who take classes on campus are generally full-time students.  Typically on-campus students are able to schedule a full load of 12-18 credits of courses per semester, with fewer on campus courses available in the summer.  On-campus courses are offered more frequently.  Classes are scheduled on a regularly rotating schedule, and if followed will permit the student to complete degree major requirements in approximately 2 years. Completing Liberal Education requirements may take additional time. Students who complete fewer classes per semester will take longer to graduate.  Refer to the BSU webpage to view on campus classes.

Accelerated completion of the program is available with the assistance of an advisor for students who must work within the restraints of unemployment benefits.
