Art is both universal and personal speaking to human emotion and experience.  Many of my works are “constructions”.  The parts create the whole. I use a variety of techniques to create rich and diverse surfaces, which suggest complexity within seemingly simple form. Certain pieces are functional as adornment to honor the body, some are vessels, some conceptual and others are metaphorical; they are small monuments to human behavior, both the good and the bad.

My conceptual and metaphorical ideas come from many sources or life experiences that are humorous, embarrassing, tragic, or joyful.  I am compelled to translate my ideas into objects that represent these experiences whether they be mine or my reaction to some one else’s.

For the past few years I have been concentrating mainly on conceptual and metaphorical pieces but, most recently began working on one-of-a-kind wearable jewelry pieces.  I am both intrigued and challenged to create wearable, functional pieces which are actually small works of art.

When I create wearable work I may borrow ideas from life experience or simply design a unique piece which is inspired by a particular stone or a found object which is often found in nature. I am increasingly inspired by texture either in nature or created using a variety of techniques such as reticulation, granulation, embossing or Mokumé Gané.

Inherent in my work is one-of-a-kind designs which cause me to experiment, stretch boundaries and take risks while keeping the integrity of the piece intact. It is imperative that not only am I pleased with the conception and the finished piece but that the wearer of the piece feels some kind of connection to it.

Art is my ‘other’ voice, a voice not expressed in words but in metal and stone or other found materials.  It is not necessary that the viewer hear all I have to say.  My intention is to intrigue you, to beckon you closer, to invoke your desire to touch, to hear a whisper of my ‘other’ voice.
