NWSA Women's/Gender Studies Student Scholarships and Awards

University Scholarship Opportunities for Women

You must apply for admission by February 1st and complete the Scholarship Biography Application to be considered for all admission scholarships.

For New, Current and Transfer Students

Hunt Family Scholarship
To children of employees of Hunt Utilities Group LLC, preference for women over 40 years of age from the Pequot Lakes or Pine River, Minnesota areas, preference to students majoring in Pre-Medicine.

BSU Foundation General Scholarship
New, current or transfer students are eligible to apply.

AAUW-Mabel Parks Scholarship
Criteria: A female student in her junior or senior year with a priority given to a student from Northern Minnesota. Minimum GPA of 3.2, demonstrated potential for leadership.

Athletics

Leah Scholarship
Criteria: Female student participating in an intercollegiate sport.

Women's Athletic Scholarship
Criteria: Female student participating in an intercollegiate sport.

Biology

Miriam Jaakola Savacheck Scholarship
Criteria: Female student who intends to enter medical school. Preference will be given to a student of junior or senior class status. To be eligible, the student must be eligible for financial aid, and must have an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher.

Distance Learning

Ed Gersich Distance Education Scholarship
Criteria: The recipient must be at least 25 years old, an admitted external studies student who is currently enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor's Degree. The recipient must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be of junior or senior status. The scholarship shall be awarded alternating years between a male and female student. 

Education

Delta Kappa Gamma Society International - Hazel Shimmin Scholarship
Criteria: Female undergraduate student majoring in Education and who will be student teaching or participating in the education internship program. Financial need, GPA of 2.5 or higher. Demonstrated volunteerism.

Physical Education, Health and Sport

Elsie Annis Honor Scholarship
Criteria: A female junior or senior Physical Education major.

Myrtie Hunt Scholarship
Criteria: A female junior or senior Physical Education major/minor showing professional leadership, creative talents, and participation in competition.

Palmer-Tarbell Scholarship
Criteria: A female with a declared Physical Education major and a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Political Science

League of Women Voters - Bemidji Area / Dr. Mable Parker & Dr. Ruth Brune Manglesdorf Memorial Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or senior, Political Science, Social Studies or Social Service major, minimum GPA of 3.0, preference given to a woman.

League of Women Voters - Bemidji Area / Hazel Shimmin Memorial Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or senior, Political Science, Social Studies or Social Service major, minimum GPA of 3.0, preference given to a woman.

Psychology

Bender Scholarship
Criteria: Sophomore, junior or senior majoring in Applied Psychology with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference will be given to a female student 25 years of age or older.

Many scholarships have wide-ranging criteria, which do not necessarily fall under any departmental listing. Please contact the Office of Admissions to get a Scholarship Biography Questionnaire to apply for a number of scholarships. The deadline to apply for these additional scholarships is February 1st.
