Scholarships

Academic, talent, and leadership awards at Bemidji State University provide over $600,000 to approximately 500 new and returning students annually. Approximately 25 percent of new entering freshman receive scholarships.

Most scholarships are awarded in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and, therefore, are not based on financial need. For more information, or a complete brochure outlining scholarships, contact the Office of Admissions and Scholarships 218-755-2040 or 1-800-475-2001, ext. 1.

Distance Learning Scholarship Opportunities

The following scholarships are available for the 2013-2014 academic year. Deadline for submitting applications is March 22, 2013. Send application letters and/or essays to Extended Learning, Bemidji State University, 1500 Birchmont Drive NE #4, Bemidji, MN 56601 or email your application information to cel@bemidjistate.edu. The Edward Gersich Distance Education Scholarship

The Edward Gersich Distance Education Scholarship is available Extended Learning students enrolled at Bemidji State University pursuing a Bachelor's degree. Applicants must be a junior or senior, at least 25 years of age, and have a 3.0 GPA. This award is worth $500, to be applied to tuition charges for the 2013-2014 academic year. If you qualify for this scholarship, you may apply by sending a letter describing your educational goals and why you should receive this scholarship. Please include your name, mailing address, phone number and email address.

The Gladys McKinley Distance Learning Scholarship

The Gladys McKinley Distance Learning Scholarship is worth $1000, to be applied to tuition charges for the 2013-2014 academic year. To scholarship is accepting applicants from undergraduate or graduate student from (or with ties to) the northern region of Minnesota who is pursuing a degree in teacher education. To apply, send a two-page letter describing who you are and who you aspire to be (including some life history) and a letter of recommendation from a current or previous teacher.

The Michael McKinley Distance Learning Scholarship

The Michael McKinley Distance Learning Scholarship is worth $1000, to be applied to tuition charges for the 2013-2014 academic year. This scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student from (or with ties to) northern Minnesota. Applicants must be working full or part time, enrolled in an off campus program and pursuing a business related degree or have a background in a business workplace or setting. To apply, send in a two page letter describing who you are and who you aspire to be (including some life history) and a letter or recommendation from a current or previous employer or supervisor.

The Northern Minnesota Distance Learning Professional Scholarship

The Northern Minnesota Distance Learning Professional Scholarship is worth $1000, to be applied to tuition charges for the 2013-2014 academic year. This scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate distance learner from the northern tier (Brainerd and north) of Minnesota. Applicants must be full time sophomores, juniors or seniors pursuing a degree that will enable them to work in a professional setting. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and send in an one page essay answering the question "What are my short and long range goals and how will my educational experience at BSU prepare me for my journey?".
