Graduate Programs

The Center for Extended Learning at Bemidji State University facilitates a variety of graduate degree programs for distance learners:

  • Master of Science in Education
    The Master of Science in Education degree is designed for in-service pre-K-12 and post-secondary educators. It is primarily an on-line program that allows students to individualize their master's degree with an emphasis on their teaching field. The six core education courses are completely on-line, while elective courses may be on-line or on campus.
  • Master of Education
    Bemidji State University's Department of Professional Education now offers an M.Ed. applied degree for practicing Pre-K through post-secondary teachers to improve their teaching skills. As with the M.S. Education program, the M.Ed degree core courses are designed to meet five program standards from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Additional coursework for the M.Ed. includes ED 6155 Capstone Experience (in lieu of a research paper/thesis requirement) and additional advanced study in an elective area.
    • M.S. Education or M.Ed - Reading Licensure
      The Master of Science in Education with electives in reading is a completely online program designed for in-service P-12 teachers who are seeking an advanced degree in reading.
    • M.S. Education or M.Ed in Educational Technology, BSU / MSUM
      This completely online collaborative program between Bemidji State University and Minnesota State University, Moorhead provides advanced studies in Educational/Information Communications and Technology for in-service pre-K-12 and post-secondary teachers.
    • M.S. Education or M.Ed - *Mathematics
      The Master of Science in Education with electives in Mathematics is a hybrid program designed to provide advanced studies in math for in-service middle school teachers. It is an intense summer face-to-face program designed to provide in-service elementary and middle school teachers broad content graduate courses with concurrent pedagogy that addresses the No Child Left Behind requirements. Core education courses are completely online. *Core classes online in Educaton online - Math courses offered face to face in summer 
  • Special Education Online Licensure
    The Department of Professional Education at Bemidji State University offers online courses leading to Minnesota licensure in both Emotional Behavioral Disorders and Specific Learning Disabilities. Coursework provides in-service teachers with a broad base of knowledge about disabilities and programming strategies to use with students with disabilities. Additional classes for the Master of Science in Special Education are also available for those students who wish to complete the MS in Special Education degree.
  • Master of Science - Industrial Technology
    The Master of Science in Industrial Technology (MSIT) degree program was developed for bachelor degree graduates and was designed for students pursuing an advanced degree in industrial technology, manufacturing, business, and enterprise quality leadership. Courses in the MSIT degree program are offered through a variety of flexible delivery options, including online, self-study and other methods.
  • Master of Science - Technology/Career and Technical Education
    The Center for Career & Technical Education at BSU offers a graduate degree for individuals wishing to enhance their personal credentials and/or prepare for leadership roles in a wide range of positions in Technology Education, and Career & Technical Education.
