How does the Center for Extended Learning work?
The entire process can take place without you ever stepping foot on the BSU campus (though, if you are ever in the neighborhood, you are welcome to stop by and see how gorgeous it really is). Admission and registration can be done either via telephone or online. And if you ever need a helping hand, our staff if available to answer any question you have on your way to becoming a BSU extended learning student.
Once you've been admitted, your education begin with just a few clicks. Through online discussion boards, live chats, posted readings and even video links, you'll be enjoying all the benefits of a classroom experience without the classroom.
I'm a non-traditional student. Is CEL right for me?
It very well might be. Adult students wishing to earn a college degree often choose CEL to fit into their busy lives.
I already have a career, but would like an (additional) degree. Is CEL right for me?
Certainly - you complete your course work at your own convenience - after hours, on your lunch break, whenever you have time.
I'm a traditional student, but my work schedule doesn't allow me to squeeze in all my classes. Is CEL right for me?
You bet. It's our job to make your education as convenient as possible.
If this sounds like the way you'd like to earn credit toward a degree, then the education you've been waiting for is just a click away!
Online Courses
These are fairly self-explanatory. These courses are completed over your Internet connection. Email, chat rooms, and newsgroups are the major components of an online course, in addition to the readings and assignments.
ITV(Interactive Television) Extension Courses
ITV is a live, interactive television course. Students from one classroom can be connected to another, and the instructor is able to interact with both groups of students. While ITV courses are, by their nature, confined to a classroom, they do allow students from vast distances to be exposed to the same material simultaneously.
Extension courses include BSU courses and other offerings, such as workshops and conferences, taught at sites beyond the main university campus. Extension courses typically meet at specific times and locations.
Guided/Self-Directed Study
A guided/self-directed study course is what is often called "independent study". They are designed to let you work at your own pace within the semester dates, while checking in with your instructor for guidance and assistance as needed. Enrollment in these courses requires self-discipline and places significant responsibility on you as a learner.
Courses are offered Fall and Spring semesters as well as during the summer and are subject to change. View the class schedules.
