Scholarship awards

You may be eligible for scholarships specifically dedicated for Extended Learning students at Bemidji State University.  Review the scholarship offerings below to see if you meet the criteria. 

Application deadline:  

March 21 for scholarships awarded in the following academic year.  Include your name, mailing address, phone number and e-mail.  Send your application via e-mail to cel@bemidjistate.edu or send it by mail to:

For undergraduate students:

The Edward Gersich Distance Education Scholarship, $500 award.  Applicants must be a junior or senior, at least 25 years old, and carry a 3.0 GPA. 

Send a letter of application describing your educational goals and why you should receive the scholarship.

For students in teacher education degree programs:

The Gladys McKinley Distance Learning Scholarship, $1000 award.  Applicants must be an undergraduate or graduate student who either lives in northern Minnesota or has ties to the area and is pursing a degree in teacher education. 

Send a two-page letter describing who you are and who you aspire to become, including some life history.  Also send a letter of recommendation from a current or previous teacher.

For students interested in a business-related degree or profession:

The Michael McKinley Distance Learning Scholarship, $1000 award.  Applicants must be an undergraduate or graduate student who either lives in northern Minnesota or has ties to the area.  Applicants must also be working full or part-time and be pursuing a business-related degree or have a background in a business workplace or setting. 

Send a two-page letter describing who you are and who you aspire to become, including some life history.  Also send a letter or recommendation from a current or previous employer or supervisor.

For students who aspire to work in a professional setting:

The Northern Minnesota Distance Learning Professional Scholarship, $1,000 award.  Applicants must be from northern Minnesota (from Brainerd and north), carry a 3.0 GPA and be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior pursuing a degree in preparation for work in a professional setting. 

Send a one-page essay that answers the following questions:

  1. What are my short and long-range goals?
  2. How will my educational experience at BSU prepare me for my journey?
