As a distance learning student at Bemidji State University, you have access to many of the same services as students who are taking courses on campus. Check out the services listed here to find out how you can order your textbooks, access library resources, set up your own electronic portfolio or learn about other student services provided to you.

Advising Success Center

The Advising Success Center can help you understand the liberal education requirements and course requirements within your academic major, answer questions about course scheduling, and assist you in planning for graduation. You can find assistance and resources on advising, assessment and tutoring as well as information on choosing a major on the Advising Success Center website.

The University Bookstore

The University Bookstore provides all of the textbooks required for distance learning courses. You can look up the required text book for your course from the Online Bookstore by selecting the

A.C. Clark Library

No matter what course of study students pursue, the resources and services of the A.C. Clark Library play an important role in their education. The library, renovated in 1999, provides access to nearly 400,000 on-campus holdings, nearly one-quarter of a million books, and collections of government publications, audio visual materials, maps, and microforms. In addition, the library website provides online access to high-quality research materials, through electronic indexes and full-text databases and electronic reference tools, containing nearly 34,000 electronic periodical titles and other resources. It also provides access to off-campus holdings through an extensive interlibrary loan network. This wide knowledge base helps support the University's academic programs. You can call the reference desk directly, toll free, at 1-800-860-0234, send questions through the Email Reference Service form (http://www.bemidjistate.edu/library/email_reference/),  or visit the library online at BSU Library.

The BSU Library delivers study-related materials to distance learners (students who are currently registered for BSU courses and current BSU faculty) who reside 30 or more miles from campus or need delivery because of permanent or temporary disability. Complete information, and the application form for this special service, are available at Service for Distance Learners on the BSU Library's home page.

Policies and Procedures

Bemidji State University fosters the highest standards of integrity and personal responsibility in all areas of university life. For more information about student rights and responsibilities, see the Student Handbook.

Testing

Tests that must be monitored may be taken in the Center for Extended Learning by setting up an appointment or they may be taken through a test administrator approved by the Center for Extended Learning.  If your tests need to be monitored, you are responsible for locating a test administrator in your area.  Many of the Minnesota State Colleges or Universities provide testing services.  Click here for contact information at a campus near you.   You may also choose public school administrators or counselors, community college instructors or counselors, or librarians (basically someone with a private office).  Public school teachers are generally not approved as test administrators.  Friends and relatives may not be used. Please provide us with the test administrator's work address--we will not mail tests to home addresses.

Technical Support

Support for online courses is provided through Information Technology Services Student Support help desk. This service is available to provide assistance Monday through Fridays, from 7:30 am until 4:30 pm. For more information, visit the Student Support website and the ITS Help Desk website.
