Distance Online Learning and Face-to-Face Classroom Experiences

The DLiTE program is an online elementary education teacher licensure program, cohort-based, 6-semester course of study that culminates in a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.  This program was developed as a comprehensive, blended-technologies elementary education program for rural and urban students who, for various reasons, cannot attend a campus-based teacher education program.  A new cohort begins each fall. Nearly all of the courses in our program are offered in a hybrid format, which means that a portion of each class is conducted in a face-to-face setting (in Minneapolis three times each year) while the remainder is completed online. It is a three year program, regardless of having an AA or BS, BA degree.

Online learning will involve using a Web-based instructional management system - Desire to Learn. The DLiTE program is known as a hybrid model and therefore provides opportunities for financial aid.

Features of the Program

Teacher-Mentors

Student-selected teacher mentors are a mandatory requirement for our students giving them opportunity to work in real classroom settings. The teacher mentors provide a unique support system as they follow the student through the program.   Visit the "Mentor" tab to learn more.

E-Mentoring

E-Mentoring is provided by faculty through D2L, email, FAX, and telephone as needed. It is not uncommon to interact one-on-one with the professor three or four times a week!
