Distance Online Learning and Face-to-Face Classroom Experiences

The DLiTE program is a K-8 Teacher Licensure Program, cohort-based, 6-semester course of study that culminates in a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. A new cohort begins each fall and spring. Nearly all of the courses in our program are offered in a hybrid format, which means that a portion of each class is conducted in a face-to-face setting (in Minneapolis three times each year) while the remainder is completed online. It is a three year program, regardless of having an AA or BS, BA degree.

Online learning using a Web-based instructional management system - Desire to Learn.  The DLiTE program is known as a hybrid model and therefore provides opportunities for financial aid.

Scholarships

We are proud to announce that we have created an account at the Bemidji Foundation to provide scholarships specifically for first term DLiTE and FasTrack students!  Students submit the scholarship application with their program application materials prior to Orientation. The name of the account is Bridges to Learning and we hope to create many $500 and $1000 tuition awards. You can download the application form here.

Scholarships are available for need and academic excellence candidates. Scholarship information.

Features of the Program

  • Teacher-Mentors

Student-selected teacher-mentors are a mandatory requirement for our students giving them opportunity to work in real classroom settings. The teacher mentors provide a unique support system as they follow the student through the program. Mentors attend a one-time face-to-face orientation in Minneapolis which is held at the beginning of the program.  Bemidji pays for this opportunity while offering possible CEU or graduate credits.

  • E-Mentoring

E-Mentoring by faculty through D2L, email, FAX, and telephone as needed. It is not uncommon to interact one-on-one with the professor three or four times a week!

  • Partners

Do you still need courses towards your AA degree? Call one of our MnSCU partners: Alexandria Technical College, Anoka-Ramsey, Central Lakes, Century College, Fergus Falls, Hibbing, Inver Hills, Itasca, Lake Superior, Mesabi Range, Normandale, North Hennepin, Rainey River, Ridgewater, Rochester, and St Paul Community Colleges. These MnSCU institutions, plus The Perpich Center for Arts Education, and The Walker Art Center have developed a comprehensive, blended-technologies K-8 Elementary Education program for rural and urban students who, for various reasons, cannot attend a campus-based teacher education program.

“The DLiTE Program has provided me the opportunity to fulfill what would have otherwise been only an elusive dream.....the dream of becoming a certified teacher. As a mother, homemaker, and full time paraprofessional, the ability to take classes online in the virtual environment has provided me with the skills to teach in a rapidly changing era. Thanks to Bemidji State University’s ability to believe that the seemingly impossible goals in life are really attainable, their vision has become my reality!”
