GRE/GMAT Testing

Students interested in applying to graduate programs at BSU should check their program’s testing requirements as some do not require a GRE/GMAT test score for admission.

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (General Test) is required for the Biology (no minimum scores required) and Environmental Studies (minimum scores: Verbal — 152, Quantitative — 155, and Analytical — 4.5 or higher) masters programs. Other departments have the option to request an applicant to take the GRE for admission purposes as well. Students who wish to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for their preferred program can register for the exam online.

Many sources for GRE practice questions and tests may be found online. The following is an example of the sites available:

BSU offers ONLY the Subject Test (paper & pencil version) and no General Test. For more information concerning GRE testing at Bemidji State, please contact Angela Vincent (; 218-755-3404) in Housing and Residential Life.

The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is required for the Master in Business Administration (MBA). The minimum test score to be considered for admission is 500. Should you receive a score less than this, you may be required to retake the test. Acceptable test scores must be on file at BSU before students will be allowed to register for courses in the MBA program.

International applicants: In addition to the GRE or GMAT scores, you must also complete and submit one of the following:

TOEFL: For graduate students, the minimum score is 550 on the paper-based test or 80 on the Internet-based test. TOEFL test code for Bemidji State University: 6676;

IELTS: Minimum score for graduate students is 6.5. IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and the University of Cam- bridge ESOL Examinations.
