Bemidji is the first city on the Mississippi and has many exciting summer activities including fishing. biking, hiking, golfing, and more.
Outdoor Program Center
The OPC offers clinics and weekend and extended canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, and backpacking trips throughout Minnesota. Rentals include canoes, sailboats, sailboards. bikes, and camping equipment. The OPC also offers indoor rock climbing at the Gillette Recreation-Fitness Center, equipment and instruction included.
Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center
The Center is available to students during posted hours. The facility includes four activity courts adaptable for basketball, tennis, volleyball, and badminton; a six-lane 200 meter indoor track; free and fixed weight rooms; five racquetball courts; a state-of-the-art climbing wall; a six-lane 25 year pool; a spacious dance studio; and a variety of cardiovascular equipment. Various programs are offered throughout the summer. To enter the facility, students must be enrolled for 1 credit or more, have paid their student fees, and present a current BSU ID.
Lake Bemidji State Park & Itasca State Park
Two local parks include Lake Bemidji State Park and Itasca State Park. The nature and serenity of the parks is a beautiful place to relax or go to get away from it all.
Paul Bunyan Playhouse
Now entering its fifty-fourth season, the Professional summer stock theatre provides a wide variaty of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
