Aaron & Evan Fagen

Alumni brothers leading the nation in ethanol plant construction

Practical know-how, drive and a solid work ethic -- those are the traits Aaron and Evan Fagen look for as they seek industrial technology professionals for their family-owned business.

Fagen, Incorporated, a Granite Falls-based heavy industrial design-build firm, leads the nation in ethanol plant construction, having built 64 percent of the ethanol capacity in the last six years in the United States. The Fagen brothers -- Aaron as chief operating officer, and Evan as executive vice president -- lead the company and its 1,500 employees.

Both began working for their parents, Ron and Diane, right out of college and worked their way up from "the field." Based on their own positive experience at Bemidji State, they've turned to the BSU Department of Technological Studies to help fill new positions. The company hired seven project engineers from the spring 2006 graduating class.

As the nation's interest in alternative fuel grows, the Fagen brothers plan to keep pace by finding qualified project engineers with the potential to be promoted to top-level managers.

About BSU

"I put a lot of time into studying because the classes are tough," says Aaron. "It taught me that if you're going to do anything that's worthwhile, give it 110 percent." Evan shares his sentiments, "After leaving BSU, if we have something to do, we do it right."
