Arts & Culture
Poets, artists, and musicians
Beyond the University, the city of Bemidji is a culturally rich community with strong ties to the arts. The city's streets are lined with small shops and unique art sculptures. Residents place a
high importance on art, music, and languages. In fact, several language conversational groups (including French, Norwegian, Spanish, Italian, and German) meet weekly in local coffee houses. During the summer, the nationally-known Paul Bunyan Playhouse operates a summer stock theater.
On campus, you'll find art galleries, music recitals, and year-round cultural events. Our music program has been recognized as a Steinway School. Staged productions on our main stage at the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex have won numerous awards. While exploring campus, you'll notice a number of significant art installations, including the recently completed mural outside the bookstore.
A sampling of the events that students will enjoy this year include:
- Madrigal Dinners
- Festival of Nations
- Bemidji Concert Series, featuring accomplished musicians in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex
- Stage productions such as: Alice in Wonderland, A Mid-Summer Night's Dream, and Twelfth Knight
