July 3, 2008 - Softball Jeremy Popp named head softball coach at BSU Bemidji State Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb today announced the hiring of Jeremy Popp as BSU’s head softball coach. Popp becomes the 16th coach in Beaver softball history. He takes the reins of the program from Ron Koski who resigned at the conclusion of the 2008 season after directing the Beavers to the NSIC Tournament in one year at the helm.

June 28, 2008 - Track and Field Former BSU thrower comes up short at the trials Joe Remitz (North Branch, Minn.), a 2008 graduate of Bemidji State, failed to advance to the finals of the U.S. Olympic Trials late Friday night at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Remitz recorded a mark of 59-00.00 to finish 24-of-25 in a field of world-class shot put throwers.

Bemidji State graduate Joe Remitz (North Branch, Minn.) has been invited to participate in the shot put at the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. June 27-July 6, 2008. Remitz is one of 25 athletes who will vie for a spot on the Team USA roster that will participate in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing beginning July 8.

Bemidji State University head volleyball coach Laurie Bitter today announced the Beavers’ 2008 volleyball schedule, featuring three preseason tournaments with ten home matches and head-to-head contests with six teams that were ranked in Division II’s top 25 at one time or another last season. May 23, 2008 - Outdoor Track and Field Remitz captures NCAA shot put championship After a superb career, there was one thing that had eluded Bemidji State University senior thrower Joe Remitz (North Branch, Minn.), but today in the warm sun of Pamona, Calif. Remitz, a seven-time All-American claimed his first NCAA Division II outdoor national championship. Sheena Devine (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) garnered third place to garner her fifth All-America honor.

May 22. 2008 - Outdoor Track and Field Preble's NCAA title quest comes to an early end Bemidji State University decathlete Zac Preble (Coleraine, Minn.), has been forced to pull out of the 2008 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Pamona, Calif. after three events. The sophomore suffered a hamstring injury during the first event of the day and after sticking it out through two more events, has, along with BSU head track and field coach Craig Hougen, decided to withdraw from competition to prevent further injury.

May 10, 2008 - Baseball Mother Nature eliminates BSU from NSIC Tournament NSIC Commissioner Butch Raymond has announced that the 2008 NSIC Baseball Tournament has been shortened to a single elimination tournament due to rain in Wayne, Neb. Since the Beavers dropped their second round game, 8-2 to Concordia-St. Paul Friday, BSU has been eliminated. The conference championship game is set for 1:00 p.m. Sunday and will match CSP and Wayne State with an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament on the line.
May 10, 2008 - Outdoor Track and Field Remitz named Athlete of the Year at NSIC Championships Less than 24 hours after setting a school record in the hammer throw in the first day of the 2008 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field meet in Wayne Neb., senior Joe Remitz (North Branch, Minn.) captured a shot put title and finished second in the discus throw en route to being named as the league's Male Field Athlete of the Year.
