Bemidji State used a strong pitching performance from Casey Allar (Jr., Sartell, Minn.) to upset the No. 2 seed Upper Iowa Peacocks, 5-2, in the first round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) tournament today in Wayne, Neb. The win for the Beavers is just the third win in the NSIC tournament all-time and the first in tournament play since the 1997 season.

Bemidji State heads to Wayne, Neb. for NSIC Tournament
The Bemidji State University Beavers head to Wayne, Neb. this week for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Tournament set for Thursday-Sunday, May 8-11. Bemidji State (15-24-1; 13-13 NSIC) is seeded fifth and will battle the No. 2 seeded Upper Iowa Peacocks (29-24; 24-8 NSIC) at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 8 from Pete Chapman Complex. Upper Iowa took 3-of-4 games from the Beavers this season, all which were one run games. It is the first time in five season that the Beavers have reached the NSIC Tournament. The last time the Beavers were in the conference tourney was in 2002 when they were eliminated in two games.

The Bemidji State baseball team ended the 2008 regular season this afternoon, dropping a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) double-header to the Wayne State Wildcats by scores of 3-0 and 13-12 in eight innings. The sweep vaulted Wayne State to its fifth straight NSIC regular season title and helped WSC seal up the No. 1 seed in next weekend’s NSIC Tournament in Wayne, Neb.

Buerkle breaks nine-year-old 200-meter record
If records truly are made to be broken, then Bemidji State sprinter Kristi Buerkle (Forest Lake, Minn.) is just following the rules. Buerkle broke BSU's outdoor 200-meter dash record Saturday en route to a second-place finish at the Ron Masanz Invitational in Moorhead, Minn. The 25.27-second race clocked by the newcomer bettered the previous school-best of 25.36 set by Amber Bohman in the spring of 1999.

BSU nearly upset No. 1-seeded and No. 8-ranked Southwest Minnesota State University in the first round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament Saturday in Marshall, Minn., but saw its season come to an end after it fell to the Mustangs and the University of Mary. The Beavers will wrap up their week with a trip to Wayne, Neb. for a four-game weekend series with the Wayne State College Wildcats. Wednesday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. start with this weekend's games starting at 1 p.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.

BSU will start the week off in Bismarck, N.D. with a NSIC double-header versus the University of Mary Marauders on Wednesday, April 16 at 2 p.m. The Beavers will then head north to Duluth, Minn. for a non-conference tilt with the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Thursday, April 17. The top-seeded Bemidji State University men's ice hockey team opens College Hockey America Tournament action Saturday Mar. 15. The CHA Champion Beavers are set to face the winner of the play-in quarterfinal match up between No. 4 Wayne State and No. 5 Ala.-Huntsville. BSU's semifinal game is set for 1 p.m. Central open face off at Dywer Arena in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Individual accolades continue to roll in for Bemidji State
When the College Hockey America officials released the list of 2008 individual award winnings Thursday Bemidji State University was well represented. Beaver freshman Matt Read (Ilderton, Ontario) was named CHA Rookie of the Year, while seventh-year head coach Tom Serratore garnered Coach of the Year honors in a poll of CHA coaches.

Presentation topples BSU in extra innings, 6-5
The Presentation College Saints toppled the Bemidji State Beavers 6-5 in eleven innings in Chandler, Ariz. in the first ever meeting between the teams. The Beavers are on a five game losing streak with the loss and fall to 2-7 on the season. BSU will wrap up its six game stint in Arizona on Friday, March 14, versus the Minnesota State Mavericks. The first pitch is slated for 11:30 a.m. Central Time.

Three BSU skaters selected for All-CHA honors
Cody Bostock (Jr., Salmon Arm, British Columbia), Matt Climie (Sr., G, Leduc Alberta) and Travis Winter (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) of the Bemidji State University men's ice hockey team were announced as members of the 2008 All-College Hockey America Team in a release by the league office today. League coaches voted Bostock to the first team while Climie and Winter were each selected to the second team.

North Park fights off Bemidji State, 13-6
North Park University scored eight runs in the second and third innings to jump out to 8-0 lead and cruise to a 13-6 victory on March 11 in the first game ever between the teams. The Vikings garnered nine of their 15 hits in the second, third, and fourth innings to score nine unanswered runs before the Beavers got on the score board.

Bemidji State freshman forward Matt Read has been named to the 2008 College Hockey America All-Rookie team today in a vote by the league's coaches. The Ilderton, Ontario native's placement on the squad marks the 14th time a BSU skater has been picked for the honor since the league's inception in 1999-2000.

Blue Jackets re-sign Murray to three-year contract
The Columbus Blue Jackets announced that the club has re-signed former Bemidji State University standout Andrew Murray to a three-year contract, keeping him with the team through the 2010-11 season. Blue Jacket General Manager Scott Howson made the announcement today. As is club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
