Bruce M. McLeod, commissioner of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), announced today that the association has voted to approve the membership of Bemidji State University and University of Nebraska Omaha into its men’s ice hockey conference for the 2010-11 campaign.

A rematch of the 2009 national semi-final game versus Miami University, first-ever clashes with Northern Michigan University and The Ohio State University and match up with University of Minnesota for the first time since 2003 highlight Bemidji State University’s 34-game 2009-10 men’s ice hockey schedule announced today by head coach Tom Serratore. Bemidji State University standout sprinter Kristi Buerkle (Stacy, Minn.) capped her sophomore campaign at the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships as an All-American. Buerkle finished fourth in the 400-meter dash Saturday at LeGrand Sports Complex in San Angelo, Tex. to garner the second All-America accolade of her young career.

A year ago he suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw from the outdoor championships. Qualifying for the indoor championships a few months ago, he no heighted in the pole vault and slid out of contention. But the third time is a charm for Bemidji State’s Zac Preble (Coleraine, Minn.). Friday the junior became the first BSU athlete to eclipse the 7,000-point mark in the decathlon taking fourth place at the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in San Angelo, Tex.

Beavers ink two during spring signing period
BSU coach Steve Sertich announced today the signing of two more players to National Letters of Intent, joining the four that were inked during the early signing period last November. All six players will begin their careers with BSU in fall 2009. Molly Arola and Jamie Hatheway have both inked with BSU during the spring signing period, and they join early signees Sadie Lundquist, Mackenzie Thurston, Keirstin Visser and Erika Wheelhouse.

Fourteen total games versus the four teams that advanced to the 2008-09 NCAA Division I women’s ice hockey Frozen Four and a spot in the first ever outdoor women’s game in Madison, Wisc., highlight the 2009-10 Bemidji State University women’s ice hockey schedule announced today by head coach Steve Sertich. Of the 36 games on the docket for the Beavers in 2009-10, 17 will take place on the Beavers’ home ice, which includes 16 regular-season games and an exhibition with the University of Manitoba.

BSU maintains good standing with NCAA for academic progress
The Bemidji State men’s and women’s ice hockey programs have again met the Academic Progress Rate (APR) standards set fourth by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). These scores provide performance benchmarks for all NCAA Division I programs under the Association’s standards for academic progress and performance beginning with data from the 2004-05 and extending through the 2007-08 academic year. The association released its most recent Academic Progress Report to the public Wednesday.

Beavers earn split with Montana State University-Billings
The Bemidji State University Beavers baseball team split its final double-header of the season with the Montana State University-Billings Yellow Jackets to salvage a four-game series split. MSUB scored a run in the bottom of the fifth in Game 1 and held on for a 3-2 win while the Beavers bounced back with a five run fourth in Game 2 earning a 7-5 victory for its seventeenth win of the season, most wins by a BSU squad since 2002 when the Beavers garnered nineteen wins.

Beavers split doubleheader with MSU-Billings
Bemidji State and Montana State-Billings split a non-conference doubleheader Saturday. Each team assembled a late-inning rally to earn a victory. BSU posted four runs in the eighth of a 9-5 victory, while the Yellowjackets posted five in the sixth inning of game two to push to a 7-3 win in the nightcap.
