BEMIDJI, Minn. - The 12th Annual Galen Nagle Memorial Golf Tournament will take place on Friday, July 17, at Bemidji Town Country Club in Bemidji, Minn.

The event is set up as an 18-hole, five-man, Texas scramble with a morning flight taking the tee box at 7:35 a.m. and 12:35 p.m. shotgun start for the afternoon flight.

Tournament proceeds directly benefit BSU's men’s ice hockey program and the endowment fund set up in Nagle’s name.

While on the course participants will be treated to beverages and brats in addition to winding through the majestic wooded setting of one of Northern Minnesota’s premier golfing venues.

Prizes will be awarded for the participant closest to the pin, with longest drive, and longest putt, in addition to more contests and games dotting the landscape from start to finish.

The event concludes with a dinner and live auction beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The cost to participate in the event is $100 per player, which includes green fees, golf cart, dinner, door prizes and more. Dinner only reservations can also be made for $15.

The Galen Nagle Memorial Golf Tournament began in 1997 in an effort to build the Galen Nagle Endowment Fund.

Nagle, who was a goaltender for the Beavers from 1980-84, went on to serve as a coach and teacher in Minnesota for several years before losing his life to cancer Oct. 18, 1994 at the age of 34.

Nagle was a member of the historic 1984 national championship team at BSU. He earned an 8-1 victory between the pipes to cap off the perfect 31-0 season.

“Galen exemplified Beaver hockey,” said former BSU men’s hockey coach and athletic director R.H. “Bob” Peters. “Hard work, dedication and loyalty were inherent to his character, and through his efforts, he became a vital part of our team.”

Nagle, a native of Baudette, Minn., graduated from BSU in 1984 and was a 1980 graduate of Bemidji High School.
